This work explores texture, form and color. I strive to overcome the flat, lifeless aspects of oxidation and electric kiln firing by layering stains, slips and glazes. My work is hand-built and/or wheel-thrown and altered. It is primarily decorative. Sculptures are compositions of hand-built tiles that form contiguous drawings. Sgraffito decoration, inspired by old masters drawings, vintage and contemporary photography, embellishes many of the pots and sculpture. Some of these techniques are also used on my wood-fired work, another current interest.
