Peggy Epton

Florida
From a distance Peggy Epton’s work resembles a painting but the tools of her trade are needles, thread, fabric, scissors and a sewing machine – with feed dogs down. Fabric is her “canvas” as she "paints" with thread--guiding the needle of a machine to "sketch" complex details onto the work. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind. No patterns, programmed stitches or pencil marks are applied – even cutting is done free-hand. Hand embroidery and sewn on beads create more visual depth.
For as long as I can remember I watched the women in my life create, mostly in the form of hand quilting, crocheting, and sewing garments. Through the years I experienced other media, but find myself most comfortable in the tactile world of cloth - just like the women before me. See it. Sew it. That’s my passion!
