Carolyn Ward grew up in small town Kansas, land of big skies, farms and magnificent animals. Endless hours were spent drawing and painting these subjects during her early years. She enjoyed a twenty plus year career in graphic art design and art direction in the commercial photography arena with stops in New York, Chicago, Milwaukee and Atlanta. Absorbing lessons by the best photographers, the artist embraced the splendor of dramatic lighting and provocative focus. Look for these elements in a glorious weave that often appears in her paintings.

Influenced by great teachers and most inspired by the Old Masters, now Carolyn’s work is gaining attention.

Receiving numerous commissions for her work, Carolyn’s paintings can be found in collector’s homes throughout the country, in galleries, and interior design showrooms. She has been featured in Milton magazine.

I specialize in soulful portraitures of animals.

Visualizing the spirit and character of each subject I paint, sometimes applying whimsy and imagination, allows me to create an animated being we can all relate to.

My work is inspired by many great artists, both contemporary and historic. I think of how contrasting light and shadow in my work will create drama. I consider composition and cropping to enhance interest.

I grew up in Kansas. The Kansas farmlands no doubt have influenced my work. Creating has always been a passion of mine…be it the furniture scheme in a sun room, an anniversary dinner, happy and contributing children or what we Kansans simply call “art with soul.”
