His first studio was in Broadway, Virginia for the purpose of fusing and slumping which led to a patent on lamp shades and current patent pending on leaf plates. This studio was in operation for five years and culminated in a four by eight foot fused glass window in the Frederick Douglass Museum on Capitol Hill, in the District of Columbia.

After studying at the New York Experimental Glass Workshop in New York City and in Seattle, Washington Algar opened a private glass blowing studio on Capitol Hill, in the District of Columbia where he received private lessons from Alan Goldfarb, a prominent master in Venetian and Medieval vessels.

To further improve his skills he took Zanfirico (cane) classes with Milon Townsend and Ralph Mossman, a glass blowing class with Josh Simpson at the Corning Museum of Glass and Murrine making with Peter Secrest at Hands on Glass in Corning, New York.

Various crystal awards were made by Algar for the National Association for Home Care and a Crystal Double Helix Award given to prominent medical VIPs from the National Institutes of Health with a separately designed and constructed crystal award being presented to the prominent Physician Doctor DeBakey.
